Course Overview

Digital learning designers are experts in digital learning and have specialist skills in educational technologies. They design and develop a range of products and initiatives, such as online courses, interactive multimedia, and virtual simulations, to address a wide range of educational and business needs.

Digital learning designers act as subject matter experts in approaches to learning with digital technologies. This includes good practice and research-informed approaches to how humans learn and how this knowledge can be leveraged with appropriate learning technologies. Digital Learning Designers maximise platform configuration and the use of established and emerging technologies, to achieve the best outcome for learners and their organisations. They may align digital learning programmes of study, content, and experiences with professional or qualification frameworks. Digital learning designers actively engage with relevant communities of practice and maintain their professional skillset through research and continual professional development.

In day-to-day project work Digital Learning Designers usually report to a relevant project or programme manager. More broadly, direct line management is often carried out by a head of department or senior learning designer.

They may be responsible for some budgetary considerations depending on the type and size of organisations and scope of their role. This would often relate to advice in procurement processes, including choices of technology, specialist work such as video and animation and licence requirements.

Qualification Achieved

On completion of this apprenticeship, you will hold a level 5 apprenticeship in Digital Learning Design.

Additional qualifications achieved include:

  • Professional Diploma in Digital Learning Design
  • Level 2 Functional Skills Mathematics
  • Level 2 Functional Skills English

Progression

The role may act as a gateway to further career and training opportunities, including, but not limited to:

  • Instructional Digital Designer
  • Digital Learning Developer
  • Senior Digital Learning Designer

Learning & Assessment

Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.

End Point Assessment

Each Apprentice must undergo an independent end-point assessment to determine the outcome of their apprenticeship. The assessments will assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours gained during their programme.

The methods in which this apprenticeship are assessed are:

  • Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio
  • Project Presentation and questioning

Individual employers will set their own criteria for this apprenticeship.

Hire an Apprentice

We can work with you to source a suitable applicant for your organisation, or you can up-skill your existing employees. If the employee is under 19 and your business has fewer than 50 employees, there will be no cost for the training. If they are over 19 and/or your business has over 50 employees then you will contribute 5% towards the cost of the training. For any businesses paying into the levy, all training costs will be covered.
